Assistant Instructional Professor

Dr. Lisa Athearn [pronounced ATH-EARN, ATH like Athens, EARN like “earn a living”] has enjoyed teaching in media and communication for 20 years. She serves as an assistant instructional professor in the Dial Center for Written & Oral Communication within CLAS at UF. Dr. Athearn loves working with students and professionals to develop communication skills that help them in both personal and professional settings. She has worked most recently with the College of Medicine in providing workshops on the importance of listening in the health professions. In addition, Dr. Athearn recently developed two Quest courses which focus on how we can promote everyday empathy via online technologies and how we value the act of listening in our everyday lives.

Dr. Athearn serves as the Director of the Dial Center’s Ambassador Leadership Program, which provides a two-year leadership-building experience for undergraduates.
